Frequently asked questions
Clear answers to help you understand our approach, services, and what to expect. If you still have questions, you're always welcome to book a free call.
Before booking
Do I need a referral?+
No. You can book directly for consultations, workshops, and programs. If you have a Medicare CDM plan from your GP, you may be eligible for rebates — that does require a GP referral.
Is the first consultation longer?+
Yes. Initial consultations are 60 minutes; reviews are 45 minutes. The longer initial allows a thorough assessment.
What should I bring to my first appointment?+
Recent blood work if you have it (within the last 6–12 months), a list of any medications and supplements, and any specific questions or goals. Don't worry if you don't have any of this — we'll work with what you bring.
Do you offer online consultations?+
Yes. Telehealth consultations are available across Australia.
How quickly can I get an appointment?+
Initial consultations are typically available within 1–2 weeks. The free 20-minute call is usually available sooner.
About our approach
What conditions do you support?+
Blood sugar imbalances, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, insulin resistance, PCOS, gestational diabetes, menopause-related metabolic changes, heart health (cholesterol, blood pressure, fatty liver), gut health (IBS, bloating, food sensitivities), and weight management.
Do you use a non-diet approach?+
Yes. We focus on understanding your metabolism, building sustainable habits, and improving long-term health. We don't use restrictive dieting or rigid food rules.
Do you support weight loss?+
We don't focus on restrictive dieting. We support metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, hormonal balance, and sustainable change. Weight changes often follow as a natural result of improving overall health.
What's the difference between you and a regular dietitian?+
Dorelle specialises in metabolic health and the connections between blood sugar, gut, heart, and hormonal health. The focus is on understanding the why — not handing you a meal plan.
How is this different from following a meal plan from the internet?+
A generic meal plan can't account for your medications, your history, your lifestyle, your culture, or your body's individual response. We build something personalised, evidence-informed, and sustainable.
Fees, rebates, and Medicare
How much do consultations cost?+
Initial consultation (60 minutes) — $180. Review consultation (45 minutes) — $110. Full details on the Fees page.
What does the Better Blood Sugar Program cost?+
$397 for the Essential Program, $497 for the Plus Support Program. Payment plans available.
Can I get Medicare or private health rebates?+
Yes, in some cases. Medicare CDM rebates require a referral from your GP. Most private health funds cover dietitian consultations under extras. We can help you check eligibility.
Do you bulk-bill?+
No, we don't bulk-bill. The Medicare CDM rebate is typically around $58 per consultation, leaving an out-of-pocket cost.
During and after your consultation
What happens in the first consultation?+
A thorough assessment of your health, eating patterns, lifestyle, and history. Discussion of your goals and challenges. Personalised recommendations. A clear plan for next steps.
Will you give me a meal plan?+
Not in the traditional “here's what to eat every day” sense. We work with you to build a way of eating that fits your life — meal-building principles, sample meals, swaps, and strategies rather than a rigid plan.
How many consultations will I need?+
It depends. Many clients have an initial plus 2–4 reviews in the first 3–6 months. Some people need more, some less. You're in control.
What if I don't see results?+
We'll review what's working and what isn't, adjust the approach, and consider whether other support (medical review, other specialists) is needed.
Can I bring my partner or a family member?+
Yes. Particularly for conditions where household eating matters (diabetes, gestational diabetes), bringing a partner can help.
Online vs in-person
How does Telehealth work?+
We send you a secure video link before your appointment. You log in from a private space (home, office). The consultation is the same as in-person — assessment, discussion, planning.
Is Telehealth eligible for rebates?+
Yes — Medicare CDM rebates apply to Telehealth consultations. Private health rebates depend on your fund.
Can I switch between online and in-person?+
Absolutely. Many clients do initial in person and reviews online, or vice versa.
Your next step
Not sure where to start?
Most people don't know whether their symptoms are driven by blood sugar, gut health, hormones, or something else. That's exactly what we help you understand in your first conversation.
